Project Title: Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy for the characterization of Electro-catalysts and studying the Electron Transfer Kinetics at the self assembled monolayers
Abstract of Project :
My prime objective during my Fulbright project is to analyze the chemical composition and the optimization of the operational parameters of electro-catalysts as the cathode materials for Membrane Fuel Cells. Membrane fuel cells are being considered as the important source of energy for the future. Scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) provides rapid screening of the catalysts composition and also the mechanistic information of the catalytic processes. Non-noble metallic electro-catalyst compositions will be investigated and optimized for the oxygen reduction reaction. Electrochemical property of self assembled mono- and multi-layers of thiols and other biomolecules will also be investigated using SECM for their use as electrochemical sensors. As an outcome of the present project, efficient and non-noble metallic cathode materials for membrane fuel cells will be developed.
